Spiritual Direction
Spiritual direction is an ancient relational prayer practice. It is a process where a trained spiritual director welcomes another (the directee), listens carefully to, and helps the directee discern the voice and movement of God in their own lives. The aim of each session is to pause and notice where the Holy Spirit may be communicating or guiding an individual uniquely and personally. Through silence, Scripture meditation, imaginative prayer, and reflection of inner movements, one begins to experience being more known and loved by the God who created them. It is also a safe space for doubters, those frustrated or confused about their faith, those who have been hurt by Christ followers, or those who feel completely lost and need to be found. It is a place for your soul to come and rest, be seen and nourished.
“The whole purpose of spiritual direction is to penetrate beneath the surface of a life, to get behind the facade of conventional gestures and attitudes which he or she presents to the world and to bring out his or her inner spiritual freedom, inmost truth, which is what we call the likeness of Christ in the world…a spiritual director is then one who helps another to recognize and to follow the inspiration of grace in his or her life, in order to arrive at the end to which God is leading.” Thomas Merton
More about me
For as long as I can remember I have been drawn to people’s life stories and God’s fingerprints in those stories. When going through a chapter of my own story that felt dark, lonely, and disorienting, I struggled to see God’s fingerprints and hear His voice. I had recently heard of spiritual direction and felt compelled to find one for myself. Through the experience of receiving direction, I found more light, support and freedom than I thought possible. In a sense, it brought me back home.
This grace-filled experience gave me a renewed passion to sit with others, hear their stories and companion them as we look and listen together for the Spirit of God’s presence in their lives. I consider it an honor and privilege to witness the way the Trinity speaks uniquely to each person.
I received my Spiritual Direction certification through Lipscomb University’s Institute of Christian Spirituality. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Daniel, for 27 years and we have been given three wonderful and inspiring children. I worked as a nurse in Women’s Health for 8 years before I stayed home to raise my children. We have two needy, yet beloved dogs and one cat who remind us daily of the faithfulness of God. I enjoy reading, walking or hiking in nature, music, yoga and great conversations.
